2011 US open of surfing is now the Nike US open of surfing

More than 500,000 people are expected to show up at Huntington Beach (Surf City), California, between July 30th and August 7th, as the Nike US Open of Surfing takes place.

The even formerly known as the US open of surfing has now been renamed the ‘Nike US open of surfing’.

Nike are offering up a $460,000 prize fund to the best surfers in the world, making this a key event in the ASP World Tour for men and women alike. It brings together the best in every field, uniting musicians, surfers, athletes and artists to ensure this is an unforgettable surf festival on the surfing circuit.

Sandy Bodecker of VP Nike Action Sports said, “It’s hard to match the experience of the world’s best in sports, music and art coming together on the beach in one of action sports’ most iconic locations…Our commitment this year is to bring the energy from Huntington Beach to even more fans across the world.”

Newly crowned world champion female surfer Carissa Moore, of Hawaii, is also expected to be competing, saying: “I’m really excited to be returning to Huntington Beach to try to defend my US Open title.”

It promises to be a great event, with surfing, skateboarding, BMX riding, athletics, fashion, exhibitions, parties, music and autograph signings all set to take place. Nike really has ensured that, through the Nike 6.0 label, the largest youth culture and sports festival in the world will be one not to miss. Increasing their support for this surfing event simply ensures it’s gonna be an absolute knock out – using their iconic brand to create an iconic and truly spectacular event. I for one, cannot wait!
